Mapping Service

Mapping Service

Pocket London's Mapping Service is designed to help our customers deal quickly and easily with the complex issues surrounding reproducing or copying maps on paper, online or anywhere else.

Why is this Necessary

Most people are unaware that all up-to-date maps are protected by copyright.

The reproduction of copyright maps, without prior consent of their owners, is illegal.

Most, if not all maps, have built in mistakes in the artwork such as a showing a road go over a railway line when, in fact, it runs under it or, more commonly, a road name is misspelled.

The courts generally accept reproductions of these mistakes as proof of a breach of copyright with large penalties being awarded against the perpetrator.

How Pocket London Maps are Different

Pocket London uses a map meticulously drawn from aerial photography and our own research. We added the road names, city landmarks and features by walking each street and double-checking the locations.

Therefore, we are able to licence our data to customers without involving a third party.

Royalty Fees

In general, other map suppliers permit reproductions of their data on a copy-by-copy basis. This can be inconvenient for the user, as they must usually keep detailed records of how many maps they produce monthly, quarterly or yearly. Using maps online also requires specific permission and will incur further charges and administration.

Pocket London charges only an annual reproduction licence, so keeping track of numbers is unnecessary, as quantity is irrelevant to the price.   The agreement also includes free use of the map on the web.
